Paul Cummins: 888,246 Ceramic Poppies Flow Like Blood from the Tower of London to Commemorate WWIt

The moat that surrounds the Tower of London has long stood empty and dry. This summer, it’s getting filled with 888,246 red ceramic poppies, one for each British and Colonial soldiers who perished during World War I.

For the past few weeks, a team of 150 volunteers has been placing red ceramic poppies one by one around the Tower. Crawford Butler, the longest serving Yeoman Warden, also known as beefeater, planted the first ceramic poppy. The last poppy will be symbolically planted on the last day of the installation: November 11, Armistice Day.

Oh my God, what if you wake up some day, and you’re 65, or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written; or you didn’t go swimming in warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? It’s going to break your heart. Don’t let this happen. Anne Lamott (via creatingaquietmind)

Detroit was hit with intense flooding yesterday. Keep the city in your thoughts. I’ll look for a link you can follow if you’d like to help.

Holy shit. One friend was unable to get to work today. Hope it clears soon.

The suburbs outside of Detroit are flooded too. People are floating on air mattresses in my neighborhood just to get out of their homes and to higher ground.

OH MY GOD!!!!

i DIDNT EVEN HEAR ABOUT THIS!!!

Yeah I was walking to the bar last night with some friends and we saw a person kayaking on one of our side streets. Ferndale, keep being you
